| | | Schoolwide Enrichment: Washington's G/T Program | | Are you interested?
We hope so!
The Schoolwide Enrichment Model at Washington
is a version of the program originally designed by Dr. Joseph Renzulli
at the University of Connecticut for our gifted/talented student
population. Based on the belief the any student can "shine" given the
right opportunity there are no qualifying exams needed to participate.
All you need to do is sign-up for activities with the program
coordinator, Mr. Cox, or have your subject teacher contact him.
Activities
are offered as the school year begins. Math Team offers students the
opportunity to engage themselves in competitive problem solving
activities with other junior high schools in St. Paul. (We were the
East Division champs this year!) Students may then become involved for
National History Day enrichment where students may use SEM time to
develop project topics, theses statements, or actually work on their
projects. At Washington we believe that chess is a game that only makes
you smarter. With that in mind a winter and spring tournament is
offered, along with the opportunity for students interested may learn
how to play! January is "Bee Month" at Washington as students
participate in the National Geographic Society Geography Bee and the
Scripps Spelling Bee. If there is an activity you're interested in that
isn't offered, let Mr. Cox know and he will do his best to make it
happen!
Students involved in SEM at Washington use the last 30
minutes of regular classtime to pursue their enrichment experiences.
Being caught up with class assignments and homework is a must!
