Trying to look smart!
My name is Suzie Myhre, and this is my 11th year at Washington Middle School.

Born and raised in Rural Minnesota, I'm happy to be part of the St. Paul community.  I received my English/Educations degrees at Moorhead State University (now called Minnesota State University Moorhead).  In January, I will begin my quest toward a Master's Degree at Hamline Universtiy.

My hobbies include reading, golfing, playing cards, camping, singing (and as some students know, rapping), hanging out at the lake, and quoting a variety of classic, and not-so-classic movies.  My extensive knowledge of 80's movie and music trivia makes me a favorite at most trivial pursuit games.

I come from a long line of teachers.  My Grandma Sylvia came from a farming community and only was able to get an Eighth Grade education.  This was something she always regretted, so education became a priority in my family.  My mother recently retired after

almost forty years of teaching.  I guess it's in my blood!  I truly enjoy it, and my students make me smile and laugh every single day.

At a very young age, I developed a love for reading and writing.  I would spend hours in my room reading, and my favorite place in the world was the library in my hometown.  I've been keeping a diary since the second grade (ever since I saw Marcia Brady keep one). As a middle school student, I was into the "Sweet Valley High" books, and would often make my parent drive thirty miles just to get the latest volume (which I would promptly read on the ride home).  Becoming an English teacher was the most logical decision I could make.

I hope my students will walk away from my class feeling that they have been able to express their ideas about the literature we read.  I also hope they are able to read at least one piece (novel, poem, story, article) that inspires them to continue reading .
