Understanding how informationis structured contributes to the development of reading comprehension andwriting skills.  The use of gestures, facialmovement, inflection, volume, and other vocal and physical expressions helpspeakers share messages with listeners. In written language, punctuation and syntax help the reader hearinformation the way authors’ intend.  Knowing how sentences areformatted helps authors’ clarify meaning and helps readers interpret meaning.
