Seventh-grade students at Washington who need extra help to meet grade-level academic literacy standards automatically are enrolled in a year-long Reading Strategies course. The Reading Strategies course integrates intensive vocabulary development and focused reading skills instruction with the school district's seventh grade content area curricula. This integration encourages students to apply and extend what they are learning throughout their school experience at the same time that they are improving their academic literacy skills.
