Hi, My name is Mary Woodward and I have been teaching 9th grade reading, also known as High School Read 180, for the past 6 years here at Washington. Prior to teaching at Washington, I also taught Reading at Arlington High School. I became a reading teacher because I love working with students and I know that being a good Reader opens up many choices for our students as they continue on their life journey. I grew up in St. Cloud Minnesota and earned my undergraduate degree in Elementary Education at St. Cloud State University. I went on to teach in a year round school in Denver, Colorado where I also received my Masters degree in Education, from the University of Denver. From Colorado, we moved to Pennsylvania where I taught in the Lab School at Shippensburg State University and also received my Reading Specialist Certification. After my daughter and son were born, we moved back to Minnesota. I have 34 years of teaching experience, with 20 years in the St. Paul Public Schools. I never have trouble finding something to do in my free time. I have traveled, to many different countries, including a 3-month bike trip through Europe. I also love hiking in the National Parks with my family. But one of my favorite places to be is at the Lake, swinging in the hammock, reading a good book. I am looking forward to learning more about you, as we grow together this school year.
