Mr. Vaerst

  •

Mr. Vaerst comes from a long line of educators within his family as a 4th generation teacher.  He is in his 21st year of teaching.  He completed his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Minnesota in 1995.  His career started out in the winter of 1996 working as a substitute teacher in Hastings, MN then accepted a full-time teaching position with South Washington County Schools in the fall of 1997.

In the spring of 2001, Mr. Vaerst came to Saint Paul Public Schools.  He spent 12 years at Como Park Senior High teaching everything from Pre-Algebra to Pre-Calculus.  In 2003, Mr. Vaerst received his Masters of Education form St. Mary's University in Winona, MN.  He joined the staff here at Washington Technology in the fall of 2012 teaching Geometry and coordinating Washington's first graduation since 1979.  He currently teachers Algebra II, Accelerated Algebra II, and Pre-Calculus.  He also continues to work with the senior class with his primary responsibility being the coordinator for graduation.

In the fall of 2014, Mr. Vaerst started teaching archery during the last period of the day.  He has plans to continue expanding the archery program here at Washington to someday include a competetive team that will compete in the NASP program, otherwise known as The National Archery in the Schools Program.

When Mr. Vaerst has spare time, he loves to fish!!  He spends many hours throughtout the summer in search of Muskies, although he also enjoys fishing for walleyes, bass and crappies (his soon-to-be wife's favorite fish to catch) as well, especially for a fresh fish dinner now and then.  Mr. Vaerst also enjoys hunting (archery and upland bird hunting), golf, and through the winter months, he participates in competitive indoor archery with his dad and future wife.
