On February 7, former
Minnesota Twins great Juan Berenguer visited Washington to meet with
prospective members of the Washington baseball team. "Senor Smoke" as
the awesome hurler is known as worked out with the team and talked to
the players about how they had to work hard to achieve their goals. He
shared stories about his upbringing and career including his pivotal
role in the Twins clinching the World Series Championship. Members of
the team are practicing indoors in preparation for the upcoming season
as part of the WINGS extended day program in a class called "Batter
Up." The class includes the fundamentals of baseball as well as
reading baseball-related literature. Pictured with the class and Mr.
Berenguer is Mr. Pat Faranacci, teacher of the class and Educational
Assistant at Washington.
