This class will prepare students to enter Beginning Band and Choir or move on to the Music Technology class.
COURSE DESCRIPTION Students will obtain a working knowledge of music notation and symbols, have acquired the ability to aurally and visually identify a wide variety of instruments in both solo and ensemble settings, and be aware of the role of technology in music today, and the ways it can simplify creation.

COURSE EXPECTATIONS Students will begin to: 1. read and use standard symbols of notatio. 2. read simple melodies. 3. use standard symbols to notate simple patterns dictated by the teacher. 4. identify the timbres of common "western" and several non-"western" instruments. 5. demonstrate perceptual skills about varios styles and cultures. 6. explore technology in music. 7. arrange simple pieces of music. 8. use appropriate technical terminology. 9. develop criteria for evaluating musical performances and compositions. 10. describe ways in which other disciplines taught in school are interrelated with those of music.
