Art & Computers equals "Media Arts"
macro-photo09.jpg
Washington offers popular classes that integrate ART with TECHNOLOGY. Students in both 7th and 8th grade can register for these creative electives: digital photography and media arts.

All of the work produced by the students is done in Washington's state-of-the-art "art lab." This lab is used full-time for art courses along with an incredible assortment of cameras and other equipment.

The difference between "just taking a picture" and making an art image while using a camera is the focus of the digital photography class. Students can create a variety of images and creatively manipulate them with the professional software in the lab.

The media arts class is all about learning how to create meaning with multiple and moving images edited together with sound and text. This is a complex art form, and Washington has all the technology needed to learn how to make a polished animation or video.

Photojournalism Students' Video Explores "Culture"
The students from the 2007 photojournalism class documented performances at Washington and activities within classrooms with visiting artists. These experiences were made possible with a district "Arts 25" Award.

The completed video explores the meaning of culture and cultural lessons learned from the performances and artist visits. The class gives special thanks to Usry Alleyne, media artist, who helped the students create all aspects of the culture production.
